Notes of a Native Son is a collection of ten essays by James Baldwinpublished inmostly tackling issues of race in America and Europe. The volume, as his first non-fiction book, compiles essays of Baldwin that had previously appeared in such magazines as Harper's MagazinePartisan Reviewand The New Leader. In spite of his father wanting him to be a preacher, Baldwin says he had always been a writer at heart.
